The 2019 American Academy of Optometry meeting in Orlando has now wrapped up. Michael Yapp, Jack Phu and Henrietta Wang were invited to present at the meeting this year and their talks were all very well received at this prestigious conference, attracting optometrists from all over the world. The topics presented by CFEH staff in 2019 include:

Congratulations to Henrietta Wang for passing her exams and becoming a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry.

Congratulations to Jack Phu who passed his exams to be accepted to the prestigious position as a Diplomate of the Glaucoma special interest group of the American Academy of Optometry.

During October 2019 Dr Jack Phu and Dr Angelica Ly were key note speakers for the New Zealand Association of Optometrists (NZAO) conference held in Hawkes Bay, New Zealand. Jack and Angelica both delivered 2 lectures and a workshop each at the well-attended meeting. They thoroughly enjoyed meeting many of the enthusiastic optometrists over the course of the weekend!

In late 2019, Michael Kalloniatis (CFEH) and Paula Katalinic (Optometry NSW/ACT) attended the Macular Disease Foundation Australia Research Grants 2019 at Admiralty House, Kirribilli.

Janelle Tong is the lead author on another paper accepted for publication in the American Journal of Ophthalmology, available online now ahead of print in December, 2019.

Dr Jack Phu’s recent paper comparing SITA faster against SITA standard has been featured in Insight this week. His research showed that SITA faster is just as accurate as SITA standard at detecting glaucoma, but testing times are approximately 50% faster making the new paradigm a real time-saver for optometrists in practice.

In late September 2019 the CFEH team attended the UNSW Research Showcase “Bioengineering for a Healthy Future”.

In September 2019, CFEH PhD candidate, Vincent Khou, presented posters at two conferences.
