Rubanni Nijjar

Tania Seligmann

With nearly 30 years of clinical experience across Australia, South Africa, and the UK, Tania is a highly experienced optometrist with expertise in paediatrics, geriatrics, ocular disease management, and post-operative care.  Before joining CFEH, she spent several years at Vision Eye Institute working alongside ophthalmologists, and also has extensive experience in community optometry. Tania finds great purpose in her role at CFEH, contributing to the early detection of eye disease and the prevention of vision loss and blindness.

Aleena Hamid

Aleena graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Optometry (Hons) from Glasgow Caledonian University in 2019.  From here, she worked as an Optometrist in retail practice, as well as providing home-visit eye examinations across Scotland.  Aleena recently joined the CFEH as a Technician, guiding and supporting final year Optometry students during their six week clinical placement while also conducting advanced ocular imaging for patients referred to the Centre. This role has developed Aleena’s interest in using advanced imaging to assist in the early detection of ocular diseases.

Irene Wei

Irene graduated from UNSW in 2024 with the University Medal and an award for excellence across the entire five-year Bachelor of Science/Master of Clinical Optometry degree. Irene developed an interest in ocular disease diagnosis early on in her studies, joining the CFEH team immediately after graduating, while also working in private practice. She has a particular interest in the early detection and management of macular and optic nerve diseases, and is passionate about integrating advanced imaging and evidence-based care to improve long-term patient outcomes.

Sarah Liao

Sarah graduated with a Bachelor of Optometry (Honours) / Bachelor of Science from the University of New South Wales. After several years of experience in corporate optometry, Sarah developed a strong passion for early detection and intervention of ocular disease. She currently works collaboratively alongside ophthalmologists in private practice and has recently joined the Centre for Eye Health to further advocate for increasing the accessibility of optometric services and to reduce the incidence of preventable blindness within the community.

Pauline Xu

Pauline received her undergraduate and Master’s degree in Optometry from UNSW and Graduate Certificate in Tertiary Teaching degree from University of Western Australia (UWA). Before joining CFEH, she practiced full-scope optometry in both rural and urban practices followed by 5 years working with the Brien Holden Vision Institute (BHVI) as a research optometrist and a research manager in BHVI, China. Following this she joined the CFEH team in which she held a Lead Clinician role. In 2022, Pauline was appointed clinic director of the Eye Health Centre of Western Australia and led the establishment of the first optometry teaching clinic in Western Australia.  She returned to Sydney and CFEH  as Principal Optometrist in 2024 concurrently holding a governance officer and a Senior Lecturer position at UWA.

Referral Types

As of 1st May 2025, CFEH will no longer be accepting new referrals, and existing patients will be reviewed and discharged over the following 6-12 months. An alternative is to utilise the CFEH Telehealth Service which will be operating until June 2026.

Helene Ly

Helene received her Bachelor of Optometry and Vision Science from The University of New South Wales, receiving the Specsavers Prize for Excellence in Patient Management and the BOC Ophthalmic Instruments Prize.  She has worked in corporate optometric practices and has recently joined the Centre for Eye Health in 2022.  Helene is interested in giving affordable and accessible eye care to culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, especially in western Sydney.

Nicola Lee

Nicola graduated with a Master of Clinical Optometry and Bachelor of Science (Vision Science) from the University of New South Wales, where she received several university awards. Nicola has recently also completed the Optometry Australia Advance Practice Recognition Program in Glaucoma. Prior to joining CFEH, she worked in regional private practice and developed her interest in ocular disease management. She has a passion for improving patient health and visual outcomes, with a focus on early diagnosis, patient education and communication.

Tania Lu

Tania completed her Bachelor of Vision Science and Master of Clinical Optometry from The University of New South Wales. She works in both corporate optometric practice and the Centre for Eye Health. Through both these experiences, she has developed an interest in treating posterior ocular diseases and reducing preventable blindness in the community.
