Modelling changes in corneal parameters with age: implications for corneal disease detection

Janelle Tong is the lead author of a paper accepted for publication (and now available online) in the prestigious American Journal of Ophthalmology looking at changes in corneal thickness and curvature due to normal ageing.

This research identified concentric patterns of age-related change across the cornea in corneal thickness and front surface curvature, and resultant models demonstrated that gender and astigmatism also contribute to variation in these parameters in a normal population.

The findings of this study could be applied to detect early corneal ectasia with greater precision.
