Rene Cheung

PhD Candidate

MOptom, BOptom (Hons), BSc

Rene has 8 years of clinical experience working in corporate and independent practices located in regional NSW. She has a first-hand understanding of the barriers that practitioners and patients face when additional diagnostic imaging is required, particularly in regional towns where resources for retinal examination can be limited. In 2020 she completed a post-graduate qualification at UNSW focusing on myopia control, advanced ocular disease, and a research project on peripheral retinal degenerations, which ultimately lead to her to apply for a PhD opportunity at CFEH. Her thesis investigates multimodal imaging approaches to retinal disease with an emphasis on image processing methods to better facilitate use of these technologies in the community.
